Protecting you and your family from unsafe products found in the marketplace is another concern of environmental health workers.  For Example, If your child is injured by an unsafe toy or if you are burned by clothing that unexpectedly burst into flames, you can get help from your local health unit.  A public health worker will inspect the store where the item was purchased and collect samples for testing.  If the article is deemed hazardous, your local health unit can stop its sale and notify other state and county agencies of the danger.  Local health units also distribute product safety information to the community.
